EMIL ON THE LINE
Top Russian Speedway Grand Prix star Emil Sayfutdinov will be breaking his busy racing schedule to make a rare visit to this part of the world when he lines up in the Darcy Ward Invitational at Poole on 24 March.
His appearance is a major coup for the event organisers, as the Russian racer has never raced regularly in this country, preferring to race only in major European competition. In fact his only other appearance at the Wimborne Road raceway came in Pirates sixtieth anniversary meeting in 2008.
Speaking from his Australian home Ward said “It’s really great that Emil is coming over to race in my meeting. He was so keen to come when I first asked him and said yes straight away.”
“I first got to know Emil when we raced against each other in the FIM World Under 21 Championships, and later in the Polish Extraliga, and I know that he will show the Poole fans the style of racing that has made him a big star on the Continent. I am so grateful to him and his team for agreeing to come.”
Sayfutdinov will be joined at Poole by three other riders who have qualified for the 2017 FIM World Championship series, with Australian internationals Jason Doyle, and Chris Holder, and Poland’s, Maciej Janowski, also agreeing to take to the track for Ward.
Currently ranked fourth in the World standings, Doyle will be out to show his fellow GP rivals that he will prove to be a main contender for a place on the podium when the chequered flag falls for the last time.
2012 World Champion Holder who will spend the 2017 at Premiership rivals King's Lynn, will need little introduction to the Poole fans having been a regular member of the Pirates side since joining them in 2008, while two times Grand Prix winner Janowski is also a former Pirate with a big following at Poole.
