NEXT ACTION: PIRATES v ACES - KO CUP
With one team trophy under their belts already this season the VOLVO CARS POOLE Pirates begin the trail of another this week with their Knockout Cup tie against Belle Vue taking place.
The Pirates open the contest on Wednesday at Wimborne Road, with the return at the New National Stadium, Manchester on Friday and the Dorset side will be looking to take a healthy advantage from the first leg with them at the end of the week.
Making his club debut will be LEWIS KERR, who joins the Pirates as cover for the injured Kyle Newman and the bar has been set high this season by Poole debutants at Wimborne Road with James Shanes and Nicolai Klindt both starring prominently in last week's Elite Shield triumph over Wolverhampton.
But Poole boss Matt Ford is not putting any undue pressure on Kerr ahead of Wednesday's meeting saying "I am not the kind to set such targets for riders. Lewis has been keen all winter to come and ride for us and I know from that point of view he will be wanting to have a good meeting, but I am not going to place any extra pressure on him. So long as he does his job for us then you can ask nothing more."
After a winter of great uncertainty for one of the most historic speedway club's in history, the Belle Vue Aces will be tasting their first competitive team action of the season and arrive at Wimborne Road captained by Team GB International Craig Cook and headed by World U21 champion and four-times Australian U21 title winner, Max Fricke.
Scottish Open Winner Justin Sedgmen and the Peter Craven Memorial winner, Dane Kenneth Bjerre are joined in the main body of the Aces team by the ever-improving Steven Worrall, whilst the exciting Dan Bewley and Jack Smith, son of ex-Aces favourite Andy, occupy the two reserve positions.
