BRITISH GP RESULT

9th July 2016

A series of missed gates during the British GP at Cardiff saw Chris Holder slide down to 7th place in the standings, after netting just six points in the 5th round of the championship race.

Whilst he was able to recover well in his first ride with a clever cut back to follow home Matej Zagar he was ultimately on the night to pay the price for not being consistently sharp away. In fact the only gate he did make came in his second outing but despite having a clear way in front of him for most of heat 8 the 2012 world champion had absolutely no answers to the impressive Bartosz Zmarzlik who zipped past.

Holder needed to invest a big effort to gain a single point from his third outing, a late pass on Iversen being scant reward for his persistence and after a rare last place for him at Cardiff (only his second in 38 races at a venue where he has been a four-time finalist and two-times winner previously) was putting a semi-final slot a big ask away from him.

In losing out to Maciej Janowski and another out-of-sorts performer, Nicki Pedersen in heat 20 Holder was to experience an early clear-up in the pits for the first time ever at Cardiff. He did salvage a valuable extra championship point by working hard to fend off Lindgren, who also has a good record in Wales but struggled on this occasion, to hold an 11 point advantage over Zagar who currently sits in the final automatic qualifying place.

If the night was difficult for Holder, it was a breeze for former Pirate Antonio Lindback who strung together five very impressive rides to claim his first GP title since his 2012 success in Torun and he now sits just one point off a championship rostrum place. Finalist Greg Hancock continues to lead the series but has seen his advantage over defending world chanmpion Tai Woffinden who finished second in the final, the third place on the night going to Zmarzlik who is now one point ahead of Holder in the table.
