Poole Pirates managed to find a late rally to secure another three league points with a heat to spare as they eventually fought off a resilient Wolverhampton side that kept countering their heat scores. And, with skipper Darcy Ward taking a heavy fall in the first running of the final heat the Poole faithful were grateful that Vaclav Milik's heat 14 win supported by Kyle Newman's third place had put the meeting beyond the reach of the Midlanders.

DARCY WARD missed out on reaching the Grand Final in Copenhagen after scoring 8 points from his qualifying heats to finish as one of the top 8 scorers on the night. As a semi-finalist Ward missed the chance of progressing to the final when hs 2013 Pirate team-mate, evergreen Greg Hancock foiled every attempt the Poole skipper made to try and improve on his third place.

Without their points plundering pair of Poles, Maciej Janowski and Przemyslaw Pawlicki due to PZM start permissions not being granted in view of their world championship qualifying engagements this week the makeshift Pirates were already facing a tough task against a Coventry side anxious to displace them in the league table standings.

With two unbeaten performances and two other riders only dropping a point a-piece the Coastal Aluminium Pirates returned to winning ways with an emphatic 25 point victory over the league's newest club Leicester.
