THE All Party Parliamentary Group for Speedway once again teamed up with the British Speedway Promoters Association for their second       end-of-season reception – which, like last year's event, was held in the Terrace Pavilion of the Palace of Westminster.

2014 ELITE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS - POOLE PIRATES

Poole Coastal Aluminium Pirates claimed their 6th league title since the championship was decided under a play-off scheme 13 years ago. The defending league title holders fended off Coventry Bees 53-37 to win 90-71 on aggregate and finally exorcise the memories of 2010 when the Midland side stole the title after finishing 22 points behind Poole at the end of the regular league campaign.

SILVER TREASURE FOR PIRATES IN POLAND

In between a busy schedule of an Elite league title defence in the championship play-offs the Poole Pirates have secured a world championship team medal after finishing second in the inaugural World Speedway League event in Zielona Gora on Saturday night.

RESULT: COVENTRY 34 POOLE 37

The Elite League Play-off Grand Final 1st leg was abandoned due to rain after 12 heats at Coventry with Poole leading 37 points to 34 and with the result standing it means the Pirates will have a 3 point lead going into Monday night's second and concluding leg.

With barely time to draw breath and celebrate their long-awaited semi-final victory, the Poole Coastal Aluminium Pirates go straight into Grand Final action, for the fifth successive season tonight when they visit the Coventry Bees.

The Pirates and Stars bravely defied the weather to complete their play-off semi-final tie and it was the Pirates that just squeezed home to reach their 5th consecutive Elite League play-off final.

Maciej Janowski couldn't quite replicate his 2012 Torun-staged GP performance when he made the semi-finals but showed that he can certainly be a force to be reckoned with when he steps up full-time in the series next season, as he finished with 7 points in the final round of this year's series replacing the suspended Darcy Ward. Janowski was delighted to be involved in the meeting especially on the very night his mentor Greg Hancock secured his third world championship title.

MAGIC VOWS TO FIGHT ON

Maciej Janowski has vowed to fight on for the Pirates despite suffering an arm injury that required 9 stitches and looked set to rule him out of the Pirates' second leg semi-final play-off meeting against King's Lynn on Monday (7.30pm).
